The DVD was defective about 5 mins into the move. It was, from that point, totally unwatchable. Borrowed another from a neighbor to be able to finish watching it.
Although annoying, AMAZON made good and shipped me a new one right away.

Ignore the hype in the popular press about this movie being some kind of "epic battle between good and evil". It's nothing more than an action/car chase movie centered around a lunatic serial killer. It's my least favorite of ALL the Batman movies. The screenplay is a mess, the photography is mediocre, and the DVD is grainy and badly transferred. Heath Ledger didn't deserve an Oscar for this role, he obviously won it via the sympathy vote. He deserved the Oscar for "Brokeback Mountain"! I find it disturbing that the masses today make heroes out of psychopaths and find them funny or amusing. At least Hitchcock made his movies (including "Psycho" and "Frenzy") with grace, style, intelligence and coherent scripts. The ending of this movie is one of the worst in film history - it abruptly stopped, like they ran out of film. It left far too much unresolved - plus it pinned the blame on the only true hero in the movie! It shows a warped sense of morality - and a very cynical view of the world! "Iron Man" and "Watchmen" are both far superior movies AND are much more entertaining. Don't waste your time and money on this overrated nightmare!

'Bruce Wayne' is the mask.
Batman wears a mask when he is being Bruce.
And so when he is with Rachel, wearing a suit and tie,
he has difficulty expressing himself. It is as if "society"
expects him to be polite, civil, stupid, non-threatening,
and even white.
But underneath, he hates those restraints. How long must
I suffer this charade? : He feels, rage. And that is why he
feels a kinship to the Joker, that he does not want to feel.
"You're a freak, just like me" the Joker tells Batman. But
Batman is like, No, sexuality is not a skin colour.
I thought Heath Ledger ruined the movie with his line:
What happened? Did your balls fall off?...That was the only
instant of profanity (the use of "curse words") in the entire
movie.
In the Bible (KJV), a man's private parts are referred to as
is his privy member and his STONES. Whereas "balls", sounds
like sports equipment, easily damaged. Also, it is telling that
the Joker stabs somebody's eyeball with a pencil. What
happened, did ye go blind?.. The Joker, is "nuts".
Boys are programmed with language, to have evil thoughts. You
are what you believe. What words will you accept into your heart?
Like a pencil jabbing you in the eye, what do you "take in" when
you look upon a page of writing? Many need to be deprogrammed,
for a dirty mind needs to be washed. They have been brain-poisoned.
Afraid of "the black man"? The Bat Man? The Joker, "Mr.White",
has a plan. "It's not about the money, it's the message". How
unlike a televangelist he is. Money piled up like a pyramid, burn
it, he will. Those bankers...He is a better class of criminal. Or
so he tells others.

I like this movie very much, but I don't understand why so many people rate it so high? As good as people make it out to be, it is not flawless. It was well done, and there are some great scenes, but it is LONG and does drag, especially after seeing it more than once. Yes, Ledger was good, but Bale was only so-so. Unlike 1989's Batman, Nicholson was able to carry the WHOLE film as the villian, and that just isn't so here. For one thing, the Joker doen't have nearly as much screen time, again though he is very good in every scene he is in. I just get confused when people are saying "it's the best movie ever", or even "the best of 2008". It's a very good movie, but NOT a perfect movie.

The Dark Knight is possibly the best movie ever. Heath Ledger is amazing and terrifying, and you get an extra hour of movie footage after it seems like the movie is ending. Awesome!
