"SHENANIGANS! Don't buy! Wait for the Extended Editions!" 2009-09-16
By Rocker7 (USA)
Shenanigans!!! I call shenanigans on New Line Cinemas!

New Line 1st released the theatrical version on DVD, then the extended version on DVD and instead of just releasing the extended edition on Blu-Ray they decide to first release the theatrical version and then the extended edition on Blu-Ray at a much later date in order to milk as much money from customers as possible. Heck, they could probably fit both the theatrical and extended versions on the same Blu-Ray.

Do not buy the theatrical release if you plan on buying the extended version. I wish Amazon and other retailers would take a stand on this practice of milking customers with both theatrical and extended editions and announce they won't sell the theatrical release unless its released at the same time as the extended edition. Yea, the retailers would lose out on some money, but by standing on the side of the customers they would build customer loyalty.

"Not bad but a little disappointed" 2009-09-14

The visual effects where better than regular dvd but the scenes actually started to look fake; perhaps from too much resolution

"Why would you buy the extended version anyway" 2009-09-14
By James Jones (Palmetto,Ga)
I bought the theatrical versions of the movies and when I heard they were going to release new footage I could'nt wait. I bought the extended versions with high expectations, but all it was, was parts they decided were not good enough for the theatrical version. There is no point in buying the extended versions in blue ray if they go that route in my opinion the added parts do nothing for the movies. Its a waste of money. The best thing about the extended versions were the Weta statues if they don't include some type of collectible it will not be worth buying. I will probably buy the blue ray theatrical versions cant see myself buying the extended unless they have the Scouring of the Shire in it. Thanks to Peter Jackson for ruining the ending of one of the greatest books of all time. For those who did not read the books the ending in the movie of Return Of The King did not end the way Tolkien had written it, which was one of the best chapters in the book that Jackson completely left out. Cant wait to see how he messes up the Hobbit

 "More of my money?" 2009-09-14
By Eric Parker
As much as I want the LOTR Trilogy on Blu-ray, I urge everyone to hold out for the extended release. I'm so tired of film companies trying to squeeze every last dollar out of me. I already own the theatrical versions on DVD, then I scooped up the extended versions when they came out. Now I'm supposed to buy this trilogy a 3rd time for the theatrical blu-ray and buy a 4th time for the extended blu-ray??? I'll pass. New Line, let me know then the extended versions come out on blu-ray and then you can have some more of my money. =(

"I wanted to see LOTR on Bluray This Year on my Home Theater" 2009-09-13
By Robert Hathaway (NJ)
I really wanted to see LOTR on bluray on my big-screen tv and was *greatly* looking forward to their release this Nov; I've been waiting for several years. I have no concerns whatsoever for a minute or so here or there that might be different between versions and frankly couldn't care a less about the price, the movies aren't watchable on standard DVD on my home theater and I require bluray. Is it possible the multitude of complaints by a vocal minority caused the delay which is why we won't see LOTR on my home theater this year? I hope this doesn't happen to Star Wars or any other big pictures people have been waiting ages over. If some people prefer some specific version or features, just wait for them to come out and don't cancel release dates the rest of us were *very patiently* looking forward to.

I personally hope the studio will reconsider publishing these titles on their original release date (Nov '09) for those fans who are so desperately waiting for them.
